IX Activity 1: Norm-Referenced and Criterion-Referenced Tests
Section
IX Activity 1: Norm-Referenced and Criterion-Referenced Tests has
six steps. Follow the numbered directions below to complete the
activity.
Step
1: In this activity you will read the article Background
Reading #1: Introduction to Assessment. The information
contained in this article will be necessary to the successful completion
of this and other activities in this section. After reading the
article, you will take two vocabulary tests. Performance on vocabulary
tests is important because scores on vocabulary tests tend to correlate
very well with measures of intelligence. In fact, educators and
psychologists often use a vocabulary test as a "quick"
indication of ones level of intellectual functioning.
Step
2: Print a copy of Vocabulary Test
#1: A Norm-Referenced Test and Vocabulary
Test #2. Mark with your answers. You will use these on the
rest of this activity.
Step
3: After completing the vocabulary tests, interpret your scores
using Vocabulary Test 1 - Answers,
Scores of the Norm Group
for Test 1, Interpreting
your score for Test 1, Vocabulary
Test 2 - Answers, and Criterion-Referenced
Tests.
Step
4: Study Reading Test
Items.
Step
5: Consider what you have learned about norm-referenced tests,
criterion-referenced tests, and testing bias.
Step
6: Using what you have learned, or what you already knew, write
a paragraph reflecting on the implications for your classroom and
submit it to the facilitator. You may use the form below.
